So I decided to focus this blog on good architecture and design and to point out bad architecture and design. Now I come from Southern California, where bad architecture is about as common as sand, and thats part of the problem because while you can do decent things with stucco, main ingredient is sand, most often its just bland box construction. The problem ultimately with Stucco is its cheap look which comes from its impermanence. Wood or even simulated wood has a longer look, and stone even more. More often there is just no value on really any adornment. Stucco, served its purpose but now needs to be set aside to never live again.
In the western US it seems as people have a skewed interest in architecture. This is especially true in city planning departments. Land Developers seem to be able to do what they like. I know the cities would disagree but when compared with european cities they do. In europe building are built to be serviceable for hundreds of years generally after the bad old days of the 60's, 70'2 and 80's. America tends to build for the short term and convince the end user that they are going to use it up and then get a new one so why build for the long term. Thus don't build with any concept of longevity.
